NBA Team Synergy Analysis
2015-16Updated Jun 3, 2016Archived
Project Overview
An exploratory study of 2011-12 NBA playoff teams that compares Eastern and Western contenders, team touches, roster composition, and predictors of player rank.
Problem & Objective
Top seeds in the NBA are defined by win totals, but the underlying statistical patterns that distinguish elite teams from near-elite ones are not well characterized.
Analytical Approach
The team applies clustering and correlation analysis to team-level stats for playoff-bound rosters, segmenting results by conference to surface structural differences.
Key Result & Impact
Distinct statistical signatures separate top seeds from lower seeds in both conferences, and persistent stylistic differences between Eastern and Western contenders are identified.
