Basketball on a Budget
2016-17Updated Jun 14, 2017Archived
Project Overview
A salary-efficiency roster builder that ranks 2015-16 NBA players by position, performance, and cost, then creates an example low-cost lineup and shot-chart comparisons against elite teams.
Problem & Objective
Building a competitive NBA team on a limited budget requires identifying undervalued players — a challenge that standard salary-to-production comparisons do not fully address.
Analytical Approach
The team defines a value metric combining win shares per dollar and positional need, then uses it to construct hypothetical rosters under salary cap constraints.
Key Result & Impact
The model identifies consistently undervalued player profiles and produces example rosters that outperform expected win totals relative to their payroll.
